Embedding environmental stewardship, social responsibility and governance excellence
Sustainability is fundamental to how Intersite fulfils its mandate as the commercial property and investment arm of PRASA. Our responsibility extends beyond asset performance to ensuring that development, investment, and partnerships deliver long-term environmental resilience, social value, and governance integrity.
Through sustainability-led decision-making, Intersite ensures that national assets are developed responsibly, managed transparently, and positioned to create enduring value for communities, partners, and the South African economy.
ESG & Sustainability
Building Greener, Smarter, and More Inclusive Transport Precincts
Sustainability is a core pillar of Intersite’s investment strategy. We are committed to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all our assets, ensuring responsible management of national infrastructure and long-term resilience for the communities we serve.
Our ESG approach strengthens operational efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and elevates Intersite’s role as a steward of public assets, aligning our work with national priorities for green growth, social development, and ethical governance.

Renewable Energy in Action
Renewable energy is a core pillar of Intersite’s environmental stewardship strategy. The 1MW solar installation at Durban Station represents a flagship investment, with smaller solar plants being rolled out across 17 core stations nationally. These initiatives reduce carbon emissions, strengthen energy resilience, and lower long-term operational costs across the portfolio.
Intersite’s renewable energy programme demonstrates how ESG principles are translated into real, measurable infrastructure investment within public transport precincts.
